Forgotten Heroes of the Kindertransport Published on September 7, 2022Educator Mike Levy joined us on 3 March 2022 for a talk on the Kindertransport, based on his new book, GET THE CHILDREN OUT! Unsung Heroes of the Kindertransport, which was published in February 2022. Mike introduced us to some of the fascinating individuals he spent the past few years researching, and we heard about the inspiring philanthropical drive of some familiar and some lesser-known people. We heard how the pogroms of 9-10 November 1938 spurred several organisations and individuals in Britain and beyond to find ways of assisting the Jews being persecuted by the Nazis. Indeed, just three weeks after Kristallnacht, the first refugees of the Kindertransport began arriving in England at Harwich. Geertruida Wijsmuller-Meijer, Bertha Bracey and many others were discussed in Mike’s talk. Though a power cut in Mike’s home brought an abrupt end to the recording, we learned a lot and left the evening with a renewed appreciation for the efforts of the many generous and dedicated supporters of the Kindertransport project. You can watch the recording here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MabR6OjHuY4&t=15s
