Six volumes of Churchill’s life, 12 volumes of documents while laying the groundwork for the final 6; 17 books and publications on aspects of Churchill’s life … how did Sir Martin do it, and what did he learn about writing history from it?Join Esther Gilbert reading from some of Sir Martin’s Churchill books on how he came to write the ‘Official’ Churchill biography and what ‘researching’ meant in those primeval pre-Google days.

Lady Esther Gilbert

Lady Gilbert, Sir Martin’s widow, is director of Martin Gilbert Publications Limited and oversees his legacy. She is the creator and editor of three volumes of Holocaust Memoir Digest, and has been involved in Holocaust commemoration and education since 1983. She was a co-founder of the Sir Martin Gilbert Learning Centre as a way to perpetuate Sir Martin’s method of studying History.
