In this talk Dr. Brettschneider will introduce participants to the little known, and largely hidden, Jewish communities still living in Ethiopia today. These communities have rich and dynamic Jewish lives. They also face extreme violence and hatred.
Dr. Marla Brettschneider is Professor of political theory at the University of New Hampshire with a joint appointment in the Feminist Studies and Politics Departments. Her work is on Jewish diversity politics and political theory. She has published numerous award-winning books such as Jewish Feminism & Intersectionality; The Family Flamboyant: Race Politics, Queer Families, Jewish Lives; and The Narrow Bridge: Jewish Views on Multiculturalism with a foreword by Cornel West. She has also published four books and numerous articles on the Jewish phenomenon in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her talk today is from her third book in the field: The Hidden Jews of Ethiopia (2022).
