A ten-week course on Modern Jewish History led by Shirli Gilbert, Professor of Modern History and Director, Parkes Institute for Jewish/ non-Jewish Relations, University of Southampton.

Each week, we will take a subject from the broad span of modern Jewish history – from the late 18th Century to the present day – and learn, discuss, and debate together.  There will be three short pieces of reading for each class, including primary sources and historians’ commentaries. The class will open with a short lecture putting the readings in context. The rest of the class is devoted to discussion and debate. Come with lots of curiosity and an open mind.
